A return on investment from tackling the cost of sickness absence
Sickness absence is a significant cost to all businesses. Not only are there the direct costs of salary and sick pay, but there are also considerable costs in relation to management time, disruption and lost productivity. Some studies estimate that these indirect costs can be twice as high as the direct costs.
We would expect that over 30% of the absence caused within the company would be attributable to medium and long-term absence, ie. greater than four weeks.
In terms of returns on investment (ROI), we need to save you only a few days of absence per case to justify the cost of medical advice. Typically, we would expect to save many weeks. The returns from using an effective OH provider, will be in excess of 200% with an almost immediate payback period. Our estimates suggest that returns should be at least in excess of 10 times the cost of the OH service. Further information on the cost/ benefit and ROI from using an OH provider is available on request.
